This post is for the two or three who of you who are loyal readers. I started this blog back in the winter when things were not going well at my first blog with Homeschoolblogger. It seems now that those problems have been worked out and I am not in need of two blogs. I am keeping this one so that I can visit you Blogspot bloggers and leave comments. Otherwise, I am posting at:

My personal blog: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/jenn4him
or
my nature blog: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/happycamper

Come and see me there!

Show & Tell

Welcome to ...Show & Tell Friday

If you would like to join us, please tell Kelli and she will get you linked to the group. Today, I am going to take you with us to Conner Prairie, again! Every time we go, it is different, so I hope you don't mind coming along again. (This is where we spent the day yesterday.) Pretty much we rotate between Conner Prairie, the zoo, the Children's Muesum, and water parks all summer long, or so my pictures seem to reflect!

Above is a Lenape dwelling being made from tree bark. The canvas is to protect it from rain. It won't be part of the final structure.

Also at the Lenape camp was this fire that we watched them build. Between the stubborn flint and the rain, I was surprised it caught on fire at all. They were heating the water to clean muskets.

This prairie girl was pretending to sew in the trader's cabin.

And she made us supper. Notice the authentic footwear. All girls in the 1800's wore them.

Next we took a tour of Willaim Conner's house. We also got a lesson on spices in the kitchen.

The Conner Barn was filled with little babies. These chicks were born the day before our visit! (Made me think of you, Jane!)

Here is Grace and her new horse. I didn't have the heart to tell her it was not real. (lol)

Time for a quick game of checkers in the parlor at the Zimmerman's farm.

View Master?

Things we did not pictured:

  • Had an Independence Day spelling quiz in the school house with Mrs. Young, the teacher
  • Gazed at the week old piglets
  • Sat on a bench under a shade tree listening to a man play his accoridan
  • Petted a baby lamb and a baby goat
  • Raided the gift shop (Thanks Grandma)

Sunday we leave for vacation. I will have sporadic access to the internet, so I wish you all well until I get back! I need to pack today, clean out the van and shop tomorrow. I may not be around much, but I will try!

What to do?

Today is Thursday, the day my dear MIL comes. We usually go to fun places around the area, which there is no end of, it seems. Today we were hoping to take her to Conner Prairie, a living history museum nearby. But now I see this giant green glob of rain on the weather map that may make it's way here before too long. We could go back to The Children's Museum. We were there a couple weeks ago. It is indoors and lots of fun too. We could go paint ceramics, my 9 year old guy suggested. We could go ahead and go to Conner Prairie and hope for the best. We've been there in the rain before and it is really not that bad. It is a lot cooler! And when it has poured down raining, we've been able to seek shelter and visit with the historians to pass the time. I just don't know what to do. Isn't that a great problem to have? So many choices, so little time! You'll have to check back tomorrow to see what we ended up doing. (tease)

For you, Dad...

It's an elm tree! Are they weeds too?

What???

I got a big surprise this morning when I looked out the sunroom windows...

My first thought was,"I didn't know we got that much wind last night."

I am so thankful it missed the garage!

I am so thankful that it wasn't the whole beautiful tree!

Maybe this new section of open sky is a blessing in disguise? Perhaps I'll have a sunny spot for a small garden next year? You can be sure I'll be watching if there is enough sun!
